School Programs

School Programming

All school programming and field trips to Smith-McDowell House Museum include pre- and post-visit materials to provide a learning experience rich in historical and chronological thinking. All programs and lessons are based on the North Carolina Essential Standards for Social Studies for grades 3 through 9 with adaptations for other grades.

A Field Trip to the Smith-McDowell House can be an exciting way to enhance your school curriculum! Allow 2 to 2 1/2 hours for program and activities. All Field Trips include a House Tour through Period Rooms (1840s – 1890s). Choose an interest program as listed in the Programming Guide or from the Traveling Trunks and Kits. Due to the size of the Museum, there is a limit of no more than two classes at a time. Field Trips are $3 per student (teachers, assistants and up to 4 chaperones per class are FREE)

Home-school groups and Scout Troops can also schedule a Field Trip!!
